Our History
On 30 March 1920, the Blackheath District Horticultural Arts & Industrial Society was founded and membership was open to residents of Blackheath & Mount Victoria. Over the years the organisation became known as the Blackheath & District Horticultural Society. In 2026 to the was changed to Blackheath Garden Club.
The club has a proud and longstanding heritage in our community, tracing its roots back to the first meeting on the 30th of March 1920. This makes it one of the oldest horticultural societies or garden clubs in New South Wales, celebrating more than a century of gardening passion, learning, and community connection.

From the earliest days, the club has brought together local gardeners and plant lovers to share knowledge, celebrate blooms, and support gardening in our cool‑climate region. Over the decades, it has played a central role in promoting horticulture in the Blackheath district through regular meetings, flower shows, educational talks, social gatherings, and community activities.

Throughout its history, the club has adapted and grown, reflecting changes in gardening trends and the evolving interests of its members, while maintaining its core purpose: to encourage interest in horticulture, share gardening expertise, and foster friendships rooted in a love of plants.

Today, we continue this tradition with our monthly meetings, guest speakers, min flower mini show, garden outings, and community involvement, keeping the spirit of gardening alive in Blackheath and beyond.
